AIMAG Ashgabat 2017
We provided a flying system, six perimeter stage lifts and a huge scenic centrepiece for the opening ceremony of the 5th Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games. Our crew installed a radial catenary and 30m truss ring which housed both winches and lighting, along with with a 100m-long access gantry for crew and performers. Both ring and gantry were created in collaboration with Total Fabrications.
The legendary figure of Oguz Han formed a key scenic centrepiece. Manufactured to fit within the confines of the 10m pit beneath the stage, it emerged to stand 20m tall. The combination of carved polystyrene, fabric and inflatable elements created a stunning, fully robed and seamless figure, hands grasping a vast bow and arrows, huge inflatable horns flanking the emblematic base.
An unfamiliar destination for tourists and crew alike, Turkmenistan’s climate provided the biggest challenge, with temperatures regularly exceeding 40 degrees.
