Many of the commissions we undertake are unique, both in their design and in their highly specific function. These commissions often throw unlikely materials, combinations of materials, unusual applications or processes into our path.
We have two 3D Printers; a Fortus 250mc and a larger Fortus 900mc. We also have a Steinbichler Comet L3D scanner. Together with our 5 Axis CNC facilties, these machines broaden our prototyping and production capabilities meaning we can provide a complete 3D package from data gathering, CAD design and on to realisation.
Innovation is inherent in virtually every project we deliver. Our ingenuity in finding ways to realise the most extreme creative vision is what sets us apart from other companies.
We design, construct and install cablenet, catenary or track mounted aerial systems in conjunction with Qmotion®, our in-house software designed for the controlled manipulation of objects in 3D space.
We can develop a project from concept through design, to build and beyond. In fact, the sooner we are brought onboard, the more we can offer.
We can design and manufacture bespoke pieces of stage engineering from large lifts and revolves to winches and hoists.
Our specialist and experienced engineers can provide electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic automation to move or automate whatever your project requires.
Qmotion is our high-end fully automated motion control system that allows us to move people, equipment, scenery or staging in any 3D environment. Qmotion was originally used on fairly small-scale projects in the heritage and tourism industry.
Almost everything we do involves developing prototypes. Some of our best ideas and innovations come from having a problem to solve and a team keen to experiment.
From scenic to architectural: Materials Engineer and R&D Director, Edwin Stokes, along with Head of Interpretation, Neil Franklin, cover all bases from sequined cloth to FRP. And if we've never worked with it before, we love finding out how a new material behaves, reacts, shapes and moulds.
We believe that having so many capabilities under one roof gives us a control and adaptability throughout the production process that cannot be matched by any other provider.
Our ferrous and non-ferrous metal fabrication capabilities provide a fully comprehensive range of services from machining individual components and manufacturing light gauge tubular structures, through to scenic construction and heavy gauge structures such as mezzanines and truss frames.
We understand creativity and when our clients bring their designs to us, they know we can come up with engineering design solutions that work with and often enhance their creative concept. If you know what you want to achieve but don’t know how to make it happen, that’s where we come in.
Our joinery manufacturing capabilities cross a broad spectrum: from simple scenic flats to all manner of specialist scenic construction. Staging, treads and rostra through to exhibitions, shop fitting, furniture and bespoke sculptures.
We have the packages and the people to cover design drafting in 2D and 3D for all disciplines. Our skilled CAD technicians break down design concepts into individual manufactured elements, providing detailed specifications for each item to be manufactured and in which production department.
We have skilled operators and engineers who work with some of the best workshop facilities in the industry. We regularly invest in our equipment, with new technologies leading us to refine and adapt processes and work in new ways.
Interpretation involves the most creative combination of our core skills. From a tiny model to a 20m sculpture, a period museum fit-out to a Paralympic astrolabe – every interpretation project is different.
Integrated lighting is something that we provide for many of our projects, from the sculptural spheres at the entrance of the O2 Arena to the 40,000 pixel covered Priscilla bus for the UK and Rio stage productions of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Traditional or high-tech, our technicians and artists can undertake any project put their way. Our 5 axis CNC facilities enable us to turn any 3D shape into reality, creating intricate models and sculptures of stunning accuracy, for example, the 7m replica pair of Adidas Predator Powerswerve football boots or the Zaha Hadid designed Z Stream slide.
Because we encounter such a broad range of projects, we need to be able to satisfy the equally broad range of variables regarding paint application, curing, durability of finish and appearance.
Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) is a generic term for a composite material comprising a polymer matrix reinforced with fibres such as glass, carbon or other fibre types.
We have decades of experience in constructing stages of all sizes, shapes and complexities – from the most basic, to those with any number of extra dimensions.
Every interpretation project that comes through our door is different, utilising the diverse skills and experience of our scenic artists.
From simple conference panels and scenic felt flats, to intricate seating and complex shapes with graphics. We use a wide range of materials including felt, suede and PVC to cover or upholster as required.
Our CNC machines are operated by highly skilled technicians who know how to get the most out of them and are proficient in all the latest Rhino, Alpha-Cam, SolidWorks and 3D AutoCAD software.
We have our own in-house rigging production managers, project riggers, crew chief riggers and rigging crew who work on all our aerial and cablenet projects.
We manufacture the electronic devices we use such as Qpos, our motion processor.
We design, construct and operate a wide range of electrical engineering products from power distribution systems to motor controls. This gives us a complete understanding of the kit itself, as well as the full range of possible applications.
We have our own in-house structural engineer who uses the Masterseries Structural Analysis Programme.
We have a team of Project Managers in place, most of whom have worked for the company for over 15 years. They have extensive experience on site and in providing strong support to the key management personnel.
We can provide operators for all the kit we develop, manufacture and supply. Our operators are experienced and highly knowledgeable, often having participated in the on-going development and refinement of the very kit they use.
Whatever we make, we are happy to install. We can deliver virtually anything, anywhere – a small van load, 25 truck loads, or more. We have experience of installing in all manner of venues and environments and to all manner of deadlines.
We can supply support crew for any element of a project. Having such varied capabilities under the one roof means we have a huge resource of skilled personnel who can be deployed wherever and whenever a project requires.
