Beyond 2012 - The Design Council Celebration Event
We were very pleased to be invited to attend the Design Council’s ‘Beyond 2012’ gala event last week, at Forman’s Fish Island, over-looking the London 2012 Olympic Stadium. Celebrating the design legacy of the Games, the event was attended by numerous designers and architects who contributed to London 2012 as well as medal winning athletes from TeamGB.
Our delegation included Olympic Cauldron mechanical design engineer Gemma Webster; Head of Interpretation Neil Franklin, who worked in particular on various aspects of the cauldron’s 204 copper petals; project manager Roy Webber who worked on delivering the stunning Olympic Ceremonies; Sales and Marketing Director Simon Wood and MD Mark Johnson; all of whom enjoyed the sunshine and fabulous views over the Olympic Stadium.
After watching the various fascinating presentations and films put together by the Design Council, our team had the opportunity to catch up with Olympic Cauldron designer Thomas Heatherwick and to chat with the many other architects and designers, making for a very interesting and enjoyable evening. We also received a specially commissioned 3D printed memento, due to take pride of place on our meeting room shelves alongside prototype petals from the Cauldron and the various other items and prototypes we have on display.
