Progress for UK Pavilion at Milan 2015 Expo
With the manufacture of the UK Pavilion for the Milan 2015 Expo happening at a brisk pace here in Yorkshire, we had a visit from pavilion designer, Wolfgang Buttress and the UK Trade and Investment team last week to see for themselves how things were progressing. The team, led by UK Commissioner General, Hannah Corbett, visited our workshops and saw some of the vast array (over 115,000) of Hive components that have been machined so far.
Meanwhile in Italy, the Milan site is taking shape with our crew having completed much of the groundworks, soft landscaping and the steel framework for the pavilion. Of particular interest is our work on the installation of around 1,000 LEDs in the structure that will be used to display data transmitted from real beehives in the UK.
Taking on the role of Main Contractor has entailed far greater commercial and project management than usual for us. We have found, however, that our experience in dealing with the different systems and various forms of bureaucracy in countries all over the world has proved surprisingly useful closer to home, in Italy. Furthermore, our experience in developing designs for manufacture, installing temporary structures and keeping to tight timelines has so far proved invaluable.
