UKTI CEO Takes a Tour of our Workshops
With the manufacture of the UK Pavilion for the Milan Expo 2015 well underway, we received a visit from UKTI CEO Dominic Jermey yesterday to see for himself the innovative manufacturing behind Wolfgang Buttress’s intricate Hive design.
The UKTI delegation also included Hannah Corbett, Commissioner General for the UK in Milan, a more regular visitor to Stage One since our appointment as UK Pavilion manufacturers last year. They were accompanied on a tour of our hangars by MD Mark Johnson, Sales and Marketing Director Tim Leigh and Construction Manager for the UK Pavilion, Mike Goodwin. As well as seeing the progress already made, they were also able to see the different machines being used to manufacture the 115,000+ components required for the complex design and the many processes involved.
Interest in the pavilion is certainly increasing as we edge closer to the Expo opening in May. BBC East Midlands Today interviewed pavilion designer Wolfgang Buttress from our workshop floor last week while Tim Leigh chatted to BBC Radio York yesterday about the pavilion, innovation and our manufacturing capabilities. Mr Jermey spoke to York Press about his visit, describing Stage One as an inspiration for other Yorkshire businesses in proving that UK firms can lead the way in international markets.
