48th UAE National Day
Our largest project of 2019, this ceremony saw us deliver an aerial system, vast stage with automation and an elegant scenic centrepiece: all in just four months.
The contoured, multi-levelled stage included a fifty-metre doughnut revolve surrounding a large lake and two-part central stage area. Ten hydraulic lifts raised the inner and outer central stage, allowing for the dramatic reveal of large scenic pieces, stored within specially constructed bays beneath the lake. The lake itself was constructed with concealed walkways, LED details and a neat infinity edge.
The aerial system comprised a twelve-line radial catenary, with 24 winches delivering lift and traverse for the very precisely choreographed moon sequence. Centre stage, we created the beautiful stylised boat which referenced the design of a traditional dhow. Skilfully painted and internally lit, the steel plate outline was clad in GRP, the sail and hull being infilled with jets of water delivered by an internal sprinkler system. This unusual and graceful scenic piece delivered a key storyline, the articulated mast and yard arm dropping as the boat sank in a storm, disappearing from view.
