Every workshop department played a hand in creating this lovingly detailed replica vehicle. Mounted half on/half off on the roof of a Turin building for the 2019 Turin Film Festival, the coach rocked back and forth, appearing to teeter precariously as in the famous cliffhanger ending of the iconic 1969 film.
Both steel chassis and roof-mounted framework had to be strong enough to accommodate the overhang. Despite being high above street-level on-lookers, it was also important that all detailing was as close to the original coach as possible. With less than two weeks for manufacture, all departments worked collaboratively. Moulds for the GRP front and rear sections were created on our large format 5-Axis facility before lay up by our team; our 3D printers created complex shapes such as the curved bumpers, handles and rear light clusters; while our skilled joiners precisely recreated trims. Additional detailed elements were sourced from the internet.
After a scenic paint finish and HQ paint to trims and surrounds, the coach was transported, uncovered, to Turin. Once craned into place, the acrylic windows complete with printed blinds, provided a light reflective surface that glinted convincingly in the Italian sunshine.
