The Tanks, Tate Modern

For this two-night high-spec event, we transformed the atmospheric basement Tanks at the Tate Modern, providing quick-turnaround welcome areas, a 15m thrust stage with an integral high-speed revolve; and a large post-show plenary for 500+ specially invited guests.

Access to the Tanks is both tricky and time restricted, requiring a meticulous approach to planning. As the Cloakroom and Registration areas were visible from the public spaces of the Turbine Hall, both were manufactured to be broken down neatly and reset quickly once the building was closed.

Very specific colour matching of finishes was essential to achieving the brief. Stage top and fascia were finished to a specific pantone reference and the dance floor and flown gauze panels printed to achieve an exact match. Even the aluminium edging for the stage was acid etched in preparation for painting on site to ensure as seamless a colour match as possible.

The post-show area included 13 triangular acoustic panels suspended from the ceiling. Beneath, a large circular bar and DJ booth were both surrounded by an eye-catching 5m high decorative PVC strip curtain in red and topped with a 9m triangular feature lightbox.
