Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle was at the heart of the client’s brief for The Google Beach at Cannes Lions. Repurposing sections from 2019 was a colossal jigsaw puzzle. The audit took time. We had to check the manufacturing and site drawings—of which there were over 500—and carefully inspect, label, and repaint each individual piece, separating it into sections ready for the build. We wanted to make it as easy as possible for the on-site crew, who would already be faced with the demands of building on sand, in up to 40-degree heat, around the clock.

As it was a repurposed structure, we took spares, tools, and our in-house experts, to allow us to re-draw, calculate, and re-make anything that was missing so we wouldn’t be delayed for the client’s launch. The pre-labelled seven sections were built in sequence-which proved to be a game-changer, and allowed us to stay ahead of the game throughout the intense period of installation.

At the end of a hot and, at times, difficult few weeks, all I can think is to thank goodness for the incredible Stage One team. I honestly thought you did a fantastic job, with a great attitude and attention to detail. It goes without saying, the client was extremely happy. The structure stood proud amongst Cannes Lions’ biggest and brightest. It was an absolute pleasure to work with you all. You seriously went above and beyond on this one. Luke Thomas
