The 2022 festive show at Leeds Playhouse was a new adaptation for Charlie & The Chocolate Factory that would open in Leeds before embarking on a national tour. This large-scale theatrical production featured two 4m tall squirrel cages. The cages needed to be manoeuvrable when on set, had to provide access from stage level to a mezzanine floor for actors to use during the show, and needed to break into smaller pieces for transportation. 

The team worked from models and sketches to create the manufacturing instructions. The framework was predominantly fabricated from rolled tubular steel and featured a spiral staircase, domed roof with some intricate aesthetic features stitched into the design. The two cages progressed through the workshops in just under a month and were dispatched to the Leeds Playhouse scenic team for final finishes before being ready for show night. 

In addition, Stage One supported the Leeds Playhouse scenic team by manufacturing the birch timber staging units for the floor. The pieces need to be durable due to the touring nature of the set, had to be broken down and were designed to interlink to an LED floor. The client requested the piece to be provided as a raw finish for their scenic team to complete.
