We manufactured this set for Scotland’s brand new news programme, ‘The Nine’ which is broadcast on the recently launched BBC Scotland TV channel.
Open on all sides, the set comprised a steel I beam cube that framed distinct presenting areas: a large, L-shaped couch with coffee table, an L-shaped presenting desk and a large TV screen set within a bespoke surround. The metal frames of both table and presenting desk were powder coated and the acrylic tops given polished edges. Both units were trucking.
The sub floor covered a total area of 12m by 10m, including the central 7m by 6.5m presenting area with large camera deck to two sides. Different vinyl floor coverings reflected the different zones, the herringbone wood effect of the couch area carefully matched to the trim around the tables and TV surround. A 250mm deep LED ribbon in a brushed stainless steel frame ran around the rear of the set.
The hour-long show is broadcast from an open-plan studio space at the BBC Scotland head quarters in Glasgow.
