We were contacted by Rastislav Bartek of Buro Happold to facilitate the display of a new work by the artist Edmund de Waal. Renowned for installations of porcelain vessels, de Waal’s new work entitled ‘Atmosphere’ consists of nine vitrines, suspended from the ceiling and holding a total of 200 small celadon and grey porcelain vessels.

The vitrines are positioned to capture the changing light, occupying a space that overlooks the North Sea. We created a bespoke frame in order to hang them from the ceiling in an exact configuration as specified by the artist.

Working in collaboration with the artist’s studio, the gallery and the structural engineer, our discrete solution required attention to detail and precision ultimately giving the impression that each vitrine is effortlessly floating.
