RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019

21 May 2019

We are delighted to have been involved in the ‘D-Day 75 Garden’, opening at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show today. Our third collaboration with designer John Everiss and our fourth year contributing to projects at Chelsea, the garden commemorates the 75th anniversary of D-Day and celebrates the final year of action for the D-Day Revisited charity.

The garden aims to involve visitors in a reflection on the intense experiences endured by the veterans on D-day. We assisted with the creation of five life-size sculptures, based around the memories of veteran Bill Pendell MM. Using 3D scans, we manufactured the master figures for John Everiss, who created the finished sculptures from thousands of individually welded metal washers. These abstract, fluid forms emerge struggling through slate-filled steel waves, also created in our workshops.

Following it’s run at Chelsea, the garden will permanently relocate to the British Normandy Memorial overlooking Gold Beach in France. Both waves and sculptures were finished with location and longevity in mind.
