We provided a flying system and technical support for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies. Our crew installed a steel wire catenary above the field of play in the Maracana stadium, enabling the aerial choreography of performers and scenery during the shows.

For the Olympic Opening ceremony, the system was used to raise the huge elastic curtain that spanned the length of the stadium during the Birth of Life segment; and also to fly a replica of Alberto Santos-Dumont’s 14-bis aircraft during the Metropolis segment. All hardware and software engineering for this aerial system was designed, manufactured and installed by Stage One. Our equipment and engineers provided technical support and automation for the Olympic and Paralympic Cauldron in all ceremonies, lifting the flame bowl into position next to the kinetic sun sculpture and also providing tracking for the sun.
