Setting The Stage For a Better Future
On 30th September 2021, Expo 2020 opened in Dubai with a spectacular ceremony. Stage One was responsible for manufacturing and installing a number of elements.
That included multiple stage builds, the central stage with a doughnut revolve, an overlay hoist system, and broadcast camera towers in Expo’s central hub the Al Wasl Plaza. Whilst this was a relatively straightforward task, the challenge lay in how we designed for Expo’s legacy.
Expo has been a highlight in our calendar for many years. In 2015, for the Milan Expo, we had the honour of bringing to life the UK’s award-winning pavilion, The Hive, designed by Wolfgang Buttress, which now resides at Kew Gardens in London.
And in 2017, at Expo 2017 in Astana, we provided complex engineering services when designing and manufacturing seven stage lifts to help deliver a series of stunning shows. Never though, have we been instructed to design and build a stage that would have such a lasting legacy in the region.
