Leeds Art Gallery: 'three of four'
We produced this aluminium sculpture for our client Yorkshire Sculpture International. Designed by visual artist Ayşe Erkmen, ‘three of four’ aims to bring the outside in by re-creating the framework for the glass roof of the Central Court in Leeds Art Gallery, a striking architectural feature only recently uncovered following renovation works.
We used the artist’s original drawings to produce designs from which we could model the aluminium structure. The aluminium for the rounded sections was rolled, while our laser tube cutter was used to accurately cut the straight lengths. Individual parts were welded together in sections to create the finished form. Installation took place over four days and was restricted by the access to the Central Court which was via an ornate staircase surrounded by art works. As a result, some pieces were brought in over the roof.
‘three of four’ is a major commission for Yorkshire Sculpture International. It will be on show for the 100 days duration of the festival.
